AVI Investors is a portfolio management company whose core focus is on African equity markets. We establish investment portfolios for individuals and corporates who have a relatively long term view on investment in general and have a deep seated understanding of Africa and its dynamics in particular. Most businesses in Africa have posted impressive returns over the past 5 years growing in quantums (revenues, EBIDTA and net profits). Yet there has been very little interest from the international investors in the exceptionally high returns the African stock markets have posted over the past 5 years. The reason can be found in mostly the risk premium and perception of high risk of investing in the continent. Most fund managers see Africa from CNN point of view not for its real intrinsic value. Investor myopia has led to investors forgoing returns as high as 80% annually consistently in most blue chip entities in Africa and prefer the meagre 9% from Western markets despite the fact that some of the businesses are by and large the same eg Barclays Bank Kenya would give an investor a much higher return than Barclays Bank UK. AVI has created a platform for individuals, pension funds, fund managers, corporates etc who have an insight into the African busines dynamics to participate in different trading equities across the continent and diversify their investment portfolios in the process. AVI has also shortlisted specific businesses in different African markets that have exhibited consistent returns over the past 5 years, strong management and governance , good cashflow and industry projections and recommends these business to its global clientele who have an appettite for investing in hyper growth markets with a long term investment horizon. AVI currently operates in Botswana, Zambia, Kenya and Nigeria , and is expanding into Ghana and Angola
AVI offers 2 main services to our clients which can be categorized as follows;
Managed Portfolio
Managed portfolio investment entails direct investment in the AVI selected stocks by an individual investor and allows the investor to pick a set of medium to long term stocks thats suits their investment horizon. An investor can purchase stocks on a monthly basis or quarterly and improve their portfolio holdings. AVI will provide key insights into each of the businesses and recommendation on the portfolio mix. Individuals interested to open a managed account should open an account and verification and approval will be granted within 48 hours.
Special Purpose Entity (SPE)
Speial Purpose Entity (SPE) ,sometimes refered to as SPV, refers to specially created pooled funds used as a vehicle to invest in particular assets . AVI has a special pooled fund where investors automatically become shareholders of the fund and their shareholding is a function of their investment into the fund. This fund targets businesses that have good long term potential . Most busineses in Africa are acutely short of good , credible and experienced managers. A 5% shareholding in most of these businesses provides one with an opportunity to steer the businesses in a different direction and demand credible management.
